Our Ancestors nurtured and cared for Wadawurrung Country for tens of thousands of years. Wadawurrung People practise Traditional knowledge and authority over the management of Country — its land, waterways and coastal areas — for the betterment of all who live on, prosper from, or simply enjoy it.

Strength, resilience and adaptability
We acknowledge the hardships, the horror and the harm our Ancestors suffered following colonisation, and the devastating impacts of that which are still evident and felt today.
The fact that Wadawurrung People and Culture have managed to survive and thrive demonstrates enormous strength, resilience and adaptability. Wadawurrung People are determined to see their unique Cultural Heritage protected and respected.

The RAP
Responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
- Evaluating Cultural Heritage Management Plans
- Providing advice on applications for Cultural Heritage Permits
- Making decisions about Cultural Heritage Agreements
- Advice or application for interim or ongoing Protection Declarations
Our RAP area covers more than 10,000 square kilometres west of Melbourne, taking in Djilang (Geelong), Ballaarat (Ballarat), the Bellarine, the Surf Coast and the start of the Great Ocean Road — across 11 local council areas.
